Applique T-Shirts

This is my entry to the Mellow Mummy "I made this" competition, which my blogging friend Louise at A Strong Coffee told me about.

These are my favourite thing to sew.  A plain old t-shirt from the high street, a handful of material scraps, some steam-a-seam interfacing and there you are - a personalised t-shirt which really stands out in the crowd.

I've made quite a few of these, and so far using steam-a-seam and zig-zag stitching around the edges seems to produce very sturdy results.  Some of the t-shirts are now being worn by my second daughter, and the applique looks as good as new.

Here are just a few examples:

  1. Oh my, you've given me some inspiration now. I've been on the lookout for some nice matching clothes for my two girls but haven't found anything I like but if I made them myself I could just buy some incredibly cheap t-shirts in their two sizes and totally tailor them. Thank you. Rushes off to dust off the sewing machine.

  2. I've always fancied doing something along the lines of "two peas in a pod" but this idea still needs some refining! My two have matching shirts with "sister" in print, and a heart. Hope you enjoy sewing some! (hope you can find the time aswell!)

  3. its amazing how a fairly simple technique ( simple once you mastered it I mean) produces such designer clothing
